Overview
The GN19-12 is an indoor, wall-through type high voltage AC disconnector for three-phase 50 Hz systems rated 12 kV. Operated by a CS6-1 manual mechanism, it opens and closes circuits under voltage but without load and cannot break load or short-circuit current. Derived versions include a pollution-proof type, a high-altitude type and a version fitted with a live-display device.
Each pole is built on a common frame with support insulators, outgoing terminals and knife contacts, arranged to pass through the switchgear panel wall (type C, with panel M). Four rated-current variants from 400 to 1250 A are offered, with 4 s short-time withstand up to 40 kA and peak withstand up to 100 kA.

Model Designation

The type is designated G N 19 -12 C M / □ – □ and decoded as follows:
- G — disconnector
- N — place of use: indoor
- 19 — design sequence number
- 12 — rated voltage in kV
- C — wall-through type
- M — with mounting panel
- □ — rated current in A
- □ — rated thermal-stable (short-time) current in kA
Construction and Operation
- Wall-through poles. Each pole is carried on a common frame with support insulators and passes through the panel wall so that the disconnector can isolate a section on each side of the cubicle.
- Current path. Outgoing terminals, support insulators and knife / finger contacts form the main conducting circuit; contact pressure is maintained by self-cleaning fingers.
- CS6-1 manual mechanism. The poles are operated through a CS6-1 manual operating mechanism with interlock; a live-display device option indicates the energised state.
- Derived types. Pollution-proof and high-altitude versions are available in addition to the standard indoor type.

In the type designation the first figure after the slash is the rated current in A and the second is the rated 4 s short-time (thermal-stable) withstand current in kA; the dynamic-stable (peak) withstand current is listed in the last column.
Normal Service Conditions
- Altitude: not above 1000 m (a high-altitude version is available)
- Ambient temperature: −25℃ to +40℃
- Relative humidity: daily average not above 95%, monthly average not above 90%
- Seismic intensity: not above intensity 8
- Site: free from fire hazard, flammable or explosive gases, severe pollution, chemical corrosion and violent vibration
Installation & Wiring
Installation and Mounting
Mount the wall-through poles on their common frame so that the bushings pass through the panel wall, fix the frame through the mounting holes, and couple the poles to the CS6-1 operating mechanism. Verify free travel of the knives, correct contact seating and the full visible break before energising, and bond the frame to the earth network.

Outline & Mounting Dimensions
- Frame overall width 620 mm; phase spacing 210 + 210 mm; overall height 470 mm.
- Panel cut-out: panel length 185 mm, width 150 mm, thickness 50 mm; the 170 mm dimension can be customised.
- Wall-through bushing projection 182 mm; mechanism side 438 mm; terminal offsets 185 / 240 / 50 mm.
Selection & FAQs
Selection Guide
- Choose the rated current (400 / 630 / 1000 / 1250 A) to match the feeder; short-time and peak withstand ratings increase with current.
- Confirm the panel cut-out and wall-through arrangement against the switchgear cubicle.
- Select the pollution-proof or high-altitude version where the site requires it, and the live-display option where indicated isolation is needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What does the type designation GN19-12CM mean?
G is the disconnector, N the indoor place of use and 19 the design sequence number; 12 is the rated voltage in kV, C denotes the wall-through type and M the version with a mounting panel. The trailing figures give the rated current in A and the rated 4 s thermal-stable current in kA.
Q2: Can the GN19-12 break load or short-circuit current?
No. It only opens and closes no-load circuits under voltage and provides a visible isolating gap; load and fault currents are cleared by the associated switching or protective device.
Q3: What mechanism is used?
A CS6-1 manual operating mechanism with interlock; a live-display device can be added to indicate the energised state.
Q4: What rated versions are available?
Four 12 kV variants: 400 A (12.5 kA / 31.5 kA), 630 A (20 kA / 50 kA), 1000 A (31.5 kA / 80 kA) and 1250 A (40 kA / 100 kA), where the values are 4 s short-time and peak withstand currents.
Q5: What are the service conditions?
Altitude up to 1000 m, ambient −25℃ to +40℃, relative humidity daily average up to 95% and monthly average up to 90%, seismic intensity up to 8, and a site free from fire, explosive or corrosive hazards.
Q6: Are derived versions offered?
Yes — pollution-proof and high-altitude types and a version with a live-display device. See the disconnector range for related models.
